Hydro storage using polders

Offshore there are great idea's about energy storage.

Currently in the Nethelands there are talks about giving polders back to the sea. Wouldn't it be economical to use these polders as energy storage lakes. IN the mean time they could act as storage area's in case of flooding.

The difference with the Energy Island of KEMA is that, unlike the sea, rivers have a limited water capacity. With the average flow rate of the Maas it takes around 100 days to fill up a basin with a capacity similar to the Energy Island. I guess this takes to long... Would the idea also be feasible on a smaller scale than the concept of KEMA?
